The Muslim Educational Trust (MET) was formed in 1967 by Afzalur Rahman. Funded by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia,
the MET began setting up Islamic lessons for Muslim pupils, to be held during the time at school that they had Christian
based religious lessons. Newham was the first borough to allow the Islamic lessons, along with Hackney school, followed by Bradford, then others. Approx 20 volunteers tought these classes throughout the 1970's.
Although they began publishing some books, the classes were the main focus of the MET.
In 1976, to gain some independance, Afzalur Rahman left the MET and formed the Muslim Schools Trust (MST).
Although weekend and evening classes recieved funding from the MST, the focus began to shift towards Islamic
book publishing. This is when Afzalur Rahman, now becoming a prolific author, had the idea of publishing an
Encyclopaedia of Seerah.

The 8 volumes of the Encyclopaedia were published throughout the 1980's, with the Seerah
Foundation being formed to manage this task. Both the Seerah Foundation and the MST operated virtually as the
same organisation with the same purpose, of advancing the Islamic religion.
After the publication of the 8th volume of the Encyclopaedia, Afzalur Rahman, now is his 80s, retired properly, and no new books were produced from the mid-1990's. He passed away in 1998.

The Encyclopaedia of Seerah is still in print, but sales have slowed and many other books are
no longer available. As Afzal Rahman wanted, the MST is in the process of being merged with the Seerah Foundation
and insha'Allah we hope to revive the organisation with this website and with new publications.
Many of the earlier books of Afzalur Rahman that are now unavailable have been digitised and, in time,
will be made available here to download insha'Allah. The 8 Volume Encyclopaedia of Seerah has a 9th Volume
by Afzalur Rahman that was never published, along with more Volumes of the Childrens Encyclopaedia, we hope to publish these insha'Allah. Finally, the Seerah Foundation has begun publishing new books, Books for Children, from StoneFaruq that we hope will benefit the future of our Ummah, insha'Allah.
